My Story
I'm Katie Rose, founder of Woven Herbs, as well as biologist, herbalist, beekeeper, and naturalist educator based in Big Sur, California. Raised in the Hatton Canyon of Carmel, I have had a deep connection with plants and fascination with the human-nature interface since I was a young girl. My collections of rocks, leaves and feathers eventually turned into specimens of soil, roots & plants as my fascination of the natural world led me into research. With UC Berkeley, the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama, the GUMP Research Station in French Polynesia, the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos, and the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research in Germany, I conducted various projects relating to the human-nature interface. This work inspired a deep inner call to return Home to the area that first inspired me, and alchemize the essence of my collective findings into my next project. I started Woven Herbs as a means for connecting our community to this special land that we share through making native medicinal herbs more accessible and understood. My hope is that through tasting, feeling, and benefiting from these plant neighbors, we can remember that medicine is all around us, and protect and honor the land as so.
